How To Be An SEO For Free

My How To Be An SEO For $57 post is still pretty popular to this day. I thought I’d one up that post with this one, and show you how to be an SEO for free! Tools and Skills you can learn to do things for free. As there has been a bunch more tools released, I thought I’d upgrade it for people interested in running an SEO Business/Company but maybe don’t have the funding/capital to invest in tool suites like Moz and Raven Tools.

So, without further ado, let’s jump straight into the Tools we’ll be using.

Open Link Profiler –

Something that the SEO Community was lacking for a long time, was a free link checker server. Thankfully, we now have Open Link Profiler which allows you to search any site’s backlink profile and it’ll display the Top 2,000 freshest backlinks indexed by the service.

OLP also has a ton of options for you to check, such as the anchor text, pages and link age. It is THE best free link checking tool, and offers a ton of features. The freshness factor also means for any content marketers you can easily check if your campaigns are working via looking at the most recent links.

OLP also allows you to download upto 100,000 backlinks by creating an account with them. 100,000 backlinks for free is amazing! It just means you have to sort them out in Excel, which we’ll be getting onto next.

SEO Tools For Excel –

Excel is a fantastic tool for Internet Marketers, and as I mentioned above you can download upto 100,000 backlinks from OPL, then use SEO Tools for Excel too sort them by any number of metrics.

Matthew Barby did a Fantastic Video Tutorial on this Excel Plugin –

You do need accounts for certain additions like the MajesticSEO API, but you’ll mostly be able to use it and factor a links quality from the free API supplied by Open Site Explorer on Moz.

OnPage Reporting –

A tool that may try and upsell as much as possible to you, but you can ignore that with a pretty simple click or 2 is Neil Patel’s QuickSprout. Not the blog, but the SEO grader.

Just fire in your site, and even a few of your competitor’s sites into the URL bar –

And you’ll get a full report that you can even download as a PDF or Excel doc (Perfect for firing over to a client) –

The tool itself measures all sorts of things, and will give you actionable Errors, Warnings and Passes that you can take away and act upon –

My site speed is pretty slow, but I’m aiming to get it faster soon with a new design!

The main thing I love about this tool is that you can download it as a PDF Report, convert to a Word doc, make a few edits and add in some branding and it’s a full SEO Report for a client’s site in just a matter of minutes. As well as it giving you precise recommendations on both SEO and Speed Optimization, things that you can actually take away and improve upon – Making those billed hours from a client actually worth it for the client *cough* cowboys *cough*.

Netpeak Checker –

If you don’t want to be hyper technical about using SEO Tools for Excel, then you can download a simple desktop application called Netpeak Checker –

You’ll be able to easily compare stats like PR, Index Status, Age, Alexa Ranking and LOADS more! It’s also free, of course.

Again, you may need to login to certain accounts to see certain statistics.

Help Scout –

Help Scout allows you to have multiple email inboxes with multiple users attached to them, this means if you’re using Freelancers or have emails for Outreach, then you can setup and assign email inboxes to different people within your team. They offer a free package for 1 Mailbox, and upto 3 Users – Great if you and your friends/partners are setting up an SEO Firm, allows for more password security as well.

This tool was actually recommended to me recently by Glen from ViperChill in his tools video on Marketing Inc. Which is a really cool, free course that Glen has been running – I highly suggest you check it out.

Google Drive & Trello –

In my other post, I mentioned these 2 tools. They’re still very valid and are excellent for anyone that doesn’t have a MS Office License and wants to add management onto there current setup
